Different Kinds of Hydroponic Systems

Hydroponics is a method of plant growing without the use of soil. It is widely used by backyard plant growers and greenhouses. Since its invention a century ago, hydroponic planting has been reinvented into varying different systems. Listed below are the most common ones.

Drip Systems
Works by slowly applying water directly or as needed. Effectivity of this system relies from direct water contact with plant roots. Water may only be applied as needed. This kind of system is designed for easy installation purposes. Drip kits comes in a set, attachment included, for easy installation.

Ebb and Flow Systems
This is a system in which the recycling of nutrients and water are in motion. Water/nutrients from a certain area, (medium area at the most) are slowly being drained back to its reservoir, which in turn can be reused as needed. Ebb and flow kits include pumps, medium tray, container that serves as a reservoir, and needed attachments for installation. Though the recycling of water and nutrients is an added point with this system, power interruptions may result to drying of plant roots.

Wick System
This is the kind which incorporates any devices, mostly homemade, can be used in setting up a wick hydroponic system. With this system, nutrients are drawn from the reservoir to the medium by way of using a wick. This system, when properly set up, can be used indoors.

Water Culture
This is the simplest system available. Plants that are within platforms are in direct contact with oxygen and nutrient solutions. One of the simplest ways to set up this kind of system can be done through improvisation of materials such as watertight containers.

Nutrient Film
Uses continued nutrients flow and a water pump, the kind that is submersible, is what makes this system works. Nutrients are being pumped into a tray, then directly into the roots of your plants. Depending on your preferred choice of pump timer interval, timers can be set as needed.

Aeroponic System
This medium is mainly set up with plant roots hanging in the air. Nutrients are being supplied thru misting with intervals every couple of minutes. The only difference between this and the other systems of hydroponic planting is that its timer is set in a cycle of few seconds to pump for nutrients within minutes of intervals.
